Bette Davis

It's been a Bette Davis week! I've been re-watching her films and can I just say I absolutely adore this lady! There's a certain spookiness about her that I'm enthralled with and have been for a number of years, in particular the film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane 1962. All that ghostly white is just so beautiful, I love how powdery she looks, a perfect old bat! I may post about the others I'm watching too...

  1. I take such delight in the specatorship of the Grotesque in this amazing film! It is excessive - a Monstrosity - and an absolute pleasure!!! Xx

  2. The film represents the psychoanalytic split between the Self and the Other - a schizoid disruption in meaning - which is Abject horror. Using excessive camp as it's aesthetic (which is amazing dark humour) - it successfully deconstructs the Monstrous Feminine is Hollywood cinema. The film is iconic, a classic - because it Demonises and has a self depreciating humour - at the ageing Starlet turned Hag.

    1. Bette Davis is such a haunting yet exotic beauty that exudes fiery and psychopathic energies of an Aries ;)
